CONCEAL
CARRY
Dear
Conceal Carry License Applicant:
As you are aware, House Bill 347 authorizes the County
Sheriff’s across Ohio to issue Conceal Carry Licenses effective
March 14, 2007. As a prospective applicant for a license issued by
the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, we are providing the
following informational checklist to assist you and us through this
process. When submitting your
application, please assure that the following steps have been taken.
1) The applicant is at least 21 years of age and
resided in Highland County or an adjacent county for at least 30
days and the State of Ohio for at least 45 days.
2)
The
$55.00 fee accompanies the application. If you have not been a
resident of the State of Ohio for the past five years, the fee will
be $79.00 due to the FBI background check that will be completed.
This can be paid with check or money order or cash. Make checks
payable to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office. You will be
provided a receipt.
3)
A
copy of, or bring original for us to copy, your certificate of
firearms proficiency training as required by the law.
4)
If
you were ever found to be mentally incompetent, involuntarily
hospitalized or institutionalized
for mental illness or mentally defective, you must submit a
Certification of remission concerning the finding.
5)
We
will take the required
color photo at the time of submission of your application.
6)
When
filling out the application please use black ink and print legibly.
It is pertinent that all areas are filled out completely and that no
questions are left unanswered. This will only delay the application
process. Please provide all telephone numbers as requested so we can
notify you that the permit process has been completed and the permit
is ready for issuance.
7)
The
completed application can be submitted at the HCSO on M-F between
the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. When the completed application is
submitted, you will need a picture ID and your fingerprints will be
taken at that time in order to complete the criminal background
check as required.
Remember,
the permit processing time could take up to 45 days to complete. I
appreciate your patience with our agency during the initial stages
of this process. If you have any questions please feel free to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Ronald D. Ward
